That might be a little old-school and cringy, but so is Jagged Alliance 3, unabashedly so. That’s where you come in: Are you a bad enough dude to save the President? The President’s daughter manages to escape and reaches out to a mercenary organization with every bit of money she has left to help rescue her father, subdue The Major, drive out The Legion, and bring peace back to Grand Chien. The country becomes de-stabilized when a ruthless military leader known only as The Major kidnaps the nation’s President and holds him hostage, intending to take control of the region with the help of his army known as The Legion. Jagged Alliance 3 takes players to the region of Grand Chien, which is a fictional country set in what seems to be African trappings.

Not only is Jagged Alliance 3 both a solid return to form and excellent upgrade for this franchise, but it’s also easily my favorite strategy game I’ve played in years.

We’ve also been burned by bad entries in the series in the past. I’m fond of their efforts on the Tropico franchise, but I wondered what they could do for Jagged Alliance, which was more of a tactical RPG with global resource management built in, not unlike XCOM before XCOM-likes were ever a thing. I didn’t know what to think of developer Haemimont Games leading this project. It does also work with Wildfire apparently.I have been intrigued by the idea of Jagged Alliance 3 ever since THQ Nordic first showed it to us in 2021. Stracciatella is a good way to go for the original (and Gold) game. What they mean is that it doesn't work with the original expansion but works OK with Gold. You can't buy UB on Steam on its own so the advice that 1.13 doesn't work with UB doesn't apply here. Hopefully the original "Classic" JA2 DLC for Wildfire is installed separately too if you want to use those files for 1.13. It does work with Gold but I don't know where UB fits in with the Steam install.

I do know that the v1.13 mod does work with Wildfire but there is a separate section for it here.
I own the games on CD and while I have keys for Steam I haven't installed any of the games this way. It's hard to say how everything will be downloaded on Steam.

It's not very important these days anyway as mods greatly improve stability on modern computers. I don't know what version of Wildfire is on Steam but I assume it's 6. You could import your saves from the original JA2 to use in UB. It consists of the original game with the other first expansion Unfinished Business (2000) (AKA v2.5, not to be confused with Wildfire v5). More features such as larger squads and higher display resolutions were introduced in this newer "version 6". A SECOND version of this expansion came out in 2005 when another company purchased the rights to it. This is now the DLC for Wildfire on Steam (for some reason) which was originally a standalone expansion (2004) that played the same as the original game but was a harder campaign. The original game Jagged Alliance 2 was released in 1999.

Just copy Ja2 classic game files into a new folder and download v1.13 and unzip the files into the new folder you created, Create a Shortcut on desktop named v1.13 and wallah you got 1.13 up and running You can run v1.13 with this version Thats why the included JA2 classic, infact this used to come with 1.13 on steam but the modders didn't want legal trouble so they asked for them to remove it. And it is not as complicated as the original JA" Gold with 1.13 update. Still, if you have played JA in the past, you will probably have lots of fun with Wildfire. You can get deep discounts on JA2:Wildfire and the DLC on sales.Įdit: I may have been wrong about the higher resolution and team-size of JA2:Classic DLC for JA2:Wildfire. With this, you get the better screen-resolution, bigger team-size on maps and various other little fixes provided by JA2:Wildfire, but the classic game/story of JA2. Right now I am planning to play JA2:Wildfire with the JA2 Classic DLC. (You have so many options there with wearables which all provide different slots to carry items with you, makes it somewhat complicated in my opinion.)
